UAE Implements Midday Work Ban for Outdoor Workers Starting June 15

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has once again reaffirmed its commitment to worker safety and well-being by reintroducing its annual midday work ban for outdoor laborers. This regulation, aimed at protecting workers from the extreme summer heat, will take effect from June 15 and continue until September 15.

Key Details of the Midday Work Ban:

Timing: Outdoor work is prohibited between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM daily.

Duration: The ban will be enforced for three months, starting June 15 and ending on September 15.

Scope: All companies and establishments involved in outdoor activities are required to comply.

Objectives and Importance

The primary goal of the midday work ban is to prevent heat-related illnesses and injuries among workers who are exposed to the harsh summer temperatures. This regulation is crucial for safeguarding the health and safety of thousands of laborers, particularly those in construction and other outdoor industries.

Compliance and Penalties

Employers are mandated to adjust their work schedules to accommodate this regulation. Failure to comply with the midday work ban can result in substantial fines and penalties. The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) will conduct regular inspections to ensure adherence to the ban.

Support and Measures for Workers

During the midday break, employers are encouraged to provide shaded rest areas and adequate hydration facilities for their workers. Additionally, educational programs and training sessions on heat stress prevention will be organized to raise awareness among both employers and employees.

The UAE's midday work ban underscores the nation's dedication to creating a safe and healthy working environment. By implementing this measure, the UAE aims to reduce the risk of heat-related health issues and demonstrate its ongoing commitment to worker welfare.
